This Container Isn’t Big Enough
by Harrell Fletcher for the 2004 Whitney Biennial
For the 2004 Whitney Biennial I showed two videos, Blot Out The Sun, and The Problem Of Possible Redemption, and I made a free newspaper called This Container Isn’t Big Enough that people could pick up at the museum. The newspaper’s primary function was to describe and show the work of ten artists who I had met in various parts of the country. I worked with volunteer students from a class I was teaching at Cooper Union and they found exhibition venues for each of the ten artists. The venues ranged from furniture stores to senior centers. The newspaper had directions to all of the exhibitions. The artists I included were, Dana Dart-McLean, Cleveland Leffler, Jess Hilliard, Emily Prince, Santiago De Paoli, Daniel Smith, Micheal Loggins, Jimmy Miles, Robert Weinstock, and the collaborative group It Can Change. K—Mroczek made decorations for the newspaper, and Brian Scott did the design work.

Just a reminder, Strange Material is a show that revolves around collaboration and is open to all students and alumni of Watkins College of Art, Design, and Film. Here’s a link to the application, which contains all the details.
